Rizal Oei and Kim Kunasek are partners at Oei Design and are husband and wife. They met as students at the University of Arizona but came from very different parts of the world. Rizal, originally from Jakarta Indonesia, moved to California for high school and surfing! After receiving his BArch, he was offered an opportunity to work in New York with Argentinian architect Emilio Ambasz. Ambasz' sent him back to Arizona to work on the Phoenix Museum of History. Prior to establishing Oei Design, Rizal held Director of Design positions at several notable companies. Kim is an Arizona girl! She grew up in a passive solar home her parents built decades before it was popular. Just after her 19th birthday she took an opportunity to work for an architect in Ireland. This step into the unknown lead to a plethora of architecture, history, and cultural experiences over several years - a first-rate prelude to embarking on the path to a BA and MA from the University of Arizona. Rizal and Kim met, married, had a family, and established Oei Design. Today Oei Design is an award winning architectural design firm.

Our Story

Since Oei Design was founded in 1996 it has evolved from retail to office interior, restaurant, and building design. Oei Design's promise to our diverse range of clients has been unchanged - deliver creative and innovative solutions in design, project implementation, and management. Oei Design works with established businesses as well as entrepreneurs and visionaries. We typically start at the "germ" of the idea stage and continue through completion. Through every phase of the project we want to protect the integrity of the design, experience, and brand. The 3Cs in Oei Design's "DNA" are CREATIVE - COLLABORATIVE - COMMUNITY. We believe in providing relevant industry research as a part of the CREATIVE process. Through COLLABORATION between clients and our team we develop programmatic requirements, create story boards, provide design solutions, and implement the project. While we work globally we are passionate about involvement in our COMMUNITY. Oei Design contributes architectural and civic services to nonprofits and educational institutions.
